Welcome to the conversation! We conceived of and built Seesmic for the express purpose of providing a clean, well-lighted place for open discourse. The content belongs to the person who posted it. The opinions they voice are their own.
As with any large community there are some basic rules of engagement that we have outlined to try and maintain the spirit of civility with which we started Seesmic. These are here to help you understand what it means to be a member of the Seesmic community. Remember - your use of Seesmic is subject to these Guidelines and our Terms of Service.
It takes all kinds to build a community and everyone has a right to feel comfortable. In Seesmic’s diverse community not everyone will think what you think, believe what you believe or see what you see. So, when it comes to interacting with others, we appreciate your being polite and respectful.
Conversations are organic things, and by nature they evolve over time. That said, if you’re going to use the reply button and enter a conversation, we ask that you please respect the topic of the thread. This allows everyone to follow the conversation. If you feel like starting an entirely new conversation, just go ahead and start one. It’s as simple as clicking the big, red record button.
Be respectful of other people’s intellectual property rights. This means don't post content that you don’t own or have the permission to post and attempt to pass it off as yours. We are in the process of adding Creative Commons support.
If you post your Seesmic videos elsewhere, we’d appreciate if you would link back to Seesmic. We make it possible for you to post videos created and hosted on Seesmic to outside web sites, and so it would be great if pages on other web sites that display videos hosted on Seesmic.com would provide a link back to Seesmic
Share your views and learn about the views of others, get involved, start conversations and take part in others, meet new people from all over the world and enjoy! And hey, make sure you look into your camera when you’re recording, think of it like looking into the eyes of the person to whom you’re speaking!
We do not intend to manage or in any way control the conversations on Seesmic. We do, however, intend to do our best to make sure people behave civilly towards each other while here. That said, people do make mistakes and miscommunication happens. Violations may result in account termination without warning.
We already said this with regards to minding others’ intellectual property rights, but it bears emphasis. If it’s not yours, and you don’t have the express permission to do so, please don’t post it to Seesmic. This means content that has not been secured through prior express permission from the rightful owner or through creative commons access.
This is pretty simple. Keep your clothes on in posts that are accessible to the general community.
If you upload content that is illegal or prohibited by law, your account will be terminated. In this case we will also have to take appropriate action, which may include reporting you to the authorities.
Many of us have products and/or services for sale. And it’s understandable that there may be times when you feel compelled to pitch them to the community. So long as it’s relevant to a conversation that’s fine, but please be respectful and don’t use Seesmic to spray spam messages or pitches about products or services.
Seesmic is not the place to harass, abuse, impersonate, or intimidate others.
There are many people from myriad countries, cultures and social groups here. You will see all sorts of things. You may find some things offensive. If a video offends you, don’t watch it. If, however, you think there's immediate cause for concern, you can report content and/or someone's behavior to Seesmic staff by emailing concern@seesmic.com.
The temptation to reply to someone’s post and eviscerate them may be strong. But we don't encourage singling out individuals publicly and as we already mentioned, Seesmic is not a forum to launch personal attacks.
It is in the spirit of keeping the Seesmic experience a positive one that we have put these guidelines together. A community is nothing without its members, and from the beginning we have built this site with strong attention to the feedback and concerns of our users. This is a team effort, and it’s critical that everyone understands their own responsibility to moderate their content properly. If these Community Guidelines don’t work for you, and you don’t feel that you can abide by them, we respect your decision not to participate as a member of our community. Just as we hope that you can understand the reasoning behind these guidelines and respect that we have put them in place.
As with all things, communities are ever-changing creatures, and we know that we will grow and evolve with time. And we hope that you will help us do that. If you ever have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to get in touch by posting to Seesmic or sending us an email at community@seesmic.com.
